Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Health Ministry, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), and Del Technology Institute (IT Del) have inked a memorandum of understanding to bolster collaboration in artificial intelligence and biotechnology to improve the healthcare system.

Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin confirmed in a statement received here on Monday that the MoU represents progress in both sectors, covering areas from research and development to the application of AI and biotechnology, particularly by integrating the three institutions' resources, skills, and infrastructure for the goal.

"We cannot always depend on foreign technology. We must be able to create our own innovative (measures), particularly in terms of healthcare, which is very strategic," Sadikin stressed.

The MoU covers areas such as research procedures, the use of health data and information, and the utilization of biological materials in biotechnology research.

Additionally, the collaboration involves sharing each institution's facilities to support further development, as well as enhancing relevant human resources and talent.

Sadikin opined that this is a long-term investment. By developing human resources in AI and biotechnology to boost the healthcare system, Indonesia will be better prepared to face global challenges, he noted.

"Imagine if we could use national health data in a smart way and then combine it with AI technology—the results would be significant for public healthcare," he stated.

Sadikin highlighted that the MoU emphasizes ethics, transparency, and trust in collaborative efforts. All activities must comply with Indonesian law, he affirmed.

"All of this collaboration must be carried out with good intentions, for the good of Indonesians. Let there be no conflict of interests or data misuse," the minister stressed.

Sadikin expressed hope that this collaboration would inspire similar partnerships between the ministry and other educational institutions.
