Jayapura District Head Yunus Wonda stated in Sentani on Monday that the procurement of these outboard motorboats is part of a priority program to address gaps in basic services, particularly education in villages.
"This demonstrates the state's presence within the community. We do not want children on lake shores and remote villages to lack proper access to transportation," he remarked.
Wonda noted that the boats would be distributed to the Lake Sentani area, the Tanah Merah Bay coast, and other waterways that serve as primary access routes to schools.
"This investment represents a concrete step by the Jayapura district government to increase school enrollment rates and reduce dropout rates in coastal areas," he affirmed.
He expressed hope that all children native to Jayapura District would have easy and safe access to education.
When children need to cross a lake or the sea to reach school, the state has an obligation to provide adequate transportation.
"These motorboats, in addition to transporting children to and from school, can also be used for other community service needs, such as transporting teachers, health workers, and others," he added.
He emphasized that the program reflects a commitment to develop from the periphery, in line with the principles of inclusive and equitable development in Jayapura District.
"All children should have equal opportunities to access educational services, because through education, the future of Jayapura District will grow better," he stated.
