The newly designated BLUD schools are Public Vocational High School (SMKN) 5 of Jambi City, SMKN 1 and SMKN 4 of East Tanjung Jabung District, and SMKN 5 of Merangin District.
“Hopefully, this move will serve as a breakthrough to boost the quality of education, especially vocational education,” he noted in Jambi City on Thursday (July 24), according to a written statement received in Jakarta on Friday.
According to the minister, BLUD status grants vocational schools greater flexibility to develop and expand business units, enabling them to manage their income more independently.
He remarked that the status also provides schools with a legal basis and authority to fully utilize their assets for public benefit.
Furthermore, the minister emphasized that the government aims to guide all vocational high schools in Indonesia to produce graduates with three key qualities: readiness for work, readiness to continue to higher education, and readiness to start businesses.
“To this end, we have begun aligning and coordinating vocational high school policies with relevant ministries,” Mu'ti remarked.
He also stressed the importance of developing strategic programs connected to natural resources and local cultures.
“We hope vocational programs will not be detached from our culture and natural wealth. It is important to ensure our children understand nature and can tap into the economic potential of natural resources,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Jambi Governor Abdullah Sani encouraged vocational schools with BLUD status to maintain good governance in education and make the most of their new status to boost income by marketing the products of their business units.
