Speaking in Palembang, the capital city of South Sumatra, on Monday, Mayor Ratu Dewa said the city government is continuing to improve its preparedness during the dry season.
To this end, all sub-district and village heads are required to consistently monitor their areas as part of the efforts to manage forest and land fires in 2025.
These efforts encompass activating emergency posts and conducting routine patrols in fire-prone areas, especially on the outskirts of the city where peatlands still exist.
"Palembang has several fire-prone areas, and we have instructed all sub-district and village heads to closely monitor their regions and collaborate with local residents for early prevention," he stated.
Earlier, the Palembang Fire and Rescue Agency responded to fires at three locations prone to land burning: Sako, Kertapati, and Alang-Alang Lebar sub-districts.
"There are three high-risk fire zones in Palembang: Sako, Kertapati, and Alang-Alang Lebar," Rika Trisna, Head of the Firefighting Division at the Palembang Fire Department, stated.
He remarked that residents are urged to stay vigilant and exercise caution in their daily activities.
According to Dewa, the affected areas are mostly empty lands.
