Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Irene Umar, has emphasized the important role of television as a medium for spreading educational values within society.

“As part of the creative economy, television is still considered highly relevant, especially in strengthening cultural literacy and delivering information to areas not yet reached by the Internet,” she observed in a ministry written statement received here on Friday.

While attending the “63 Years of Enlightening the Nation” concert organized by state television station TVRI here on Thursday, Umar described TVRI as a symbol of resilience and adaptability that has undergone various technological changes without losing its identity.

She further said that TVRI is continuing to play its role as a driver of the creative economy through digital transformation and cross-sector collaboration.

“Many assume public television is slow to adapt, but I have seen myself how TVRI continues to evolve and respond to the needs of the times, remaining present and relevant in the creative economy ecosystem,” she added.

The deputy minister viewed TVRI’s move to offer on-demand content as a smart adaptation to the viewing habits of the younger generation.

She also encouraged TVRI to continue opening up to cross-subsector collaboration, such as in music, film, and animation, to produce diverse and competitive content.

As a public broadcaster, TVRI is expected to not only serve as an information provider but also as a driving force for strengthening cultural identity, expanding the distribution of creative works, and enhancing the competitiveness of the broadcasting sub-sector at both the national and global levels.

“Television can serve as a bridge between (creative economy) subsectors. TVRI has the potential to become a stage for many creative talents. Now is the time for television to rise as the new engine of growth in our creative economy,” she said.
