Speaking at a coordination meeting with the ministry here on Monday, he highlighted the need for increased vigilance amid the current global situation.
“In today’s global conditions, we must be cautious as they may not only be entering as refugees or tourists. In some cases, they are also espionage actors,” he explained.
According to him, such espionage actors could threaten Indonesia’s internal security.
On Monday, Polri and the Immigration and Corrections Ministry signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and a cooperation agreement on building synergy in their duties and functions regarding policing, immigration, and correctional affairs.
A separate cooperation agreement was also signed by the Directorate General of Immigration and the Polri concerning basic intelligence and investigation training for immigration officials and staff.
Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Corrections signed a cooperation agreement with the police on support for duties and functions related to inmate and juvenile inmate data and/or information, as well as the management of non-organic firearms and security equipment categorized as weapons.
Minister of Immigration and Corrections, Agus Andrianto, emphasized that without strong collaboration with the police, many challenges in the field cannot be addressed effectively.
He said that the National Police has a vast network and proven capabilities to support national security and stability.
“This cooperation is an important milestone for the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections, as a newly established ministry in the Red and White Cabinet, in building institutional synergy with the National Police,” Andrianto added.
