Wamena, Highland Papua (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Housing and Settlements (PKP) on Friday provided details about the mechanism for the construction of 2,200 housing units for communities and tribal chiefs in Highland Papua province.

Director general of governance and risk management at the ministry, Aziz Andriansyah, said that the housing program has been devised based on President Prabowo Subianto’s direct instructions to Highland Papua Governor John Tabo.

“This housing program came from the President’s direction to Governor John Tabo for communities and tribal chiefs in eight districts,” he informed during a coordination meeting with the Highland Papuan provincial government.

“This program is a special project from the President, and is not a regular project typically given to regional governments,” he added.

The 2,200 housing units will be provided to residents of eight districts—Jayawijaya, Lanny Jaya, Tolikara, Yalimo, Central Mamberamo, Nduga, Pegunungan Bintang, and Yahukimo.

Of the total units, 2 thousand Type 45 homes will be provided to the community, while 200 Type 90 houses will be earmarked for tribal chiefs in the eight districts, Andriansyah informed.

He then listed several regular projects undertaken by his ministry, including the construction of flats for low-income communities, special housing in border areas, post-disaster assistance housing, self-help stimulus housing, home renovations, and assistance for public infrastructure such as roads and drainage systems.

He informed that the program for building 2,200 housing units for communities and tribal chiefs in Highland Papua is a special program that will require specific implementation and regulations.

“We must prepare special regulations, procedures, criteria, and consider various technical and non-technical aspects for this specific program,” Andriansyah said.

He added that the program is intended to help ensure healthy and clean living standards for communities residing in eight districts in the region.

He expressed the hope that the program will run smoothly, without any problems.
