Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) expressed support and praise for President Prabowo Subianto’s unwavering efforts to promote world peace through diplomacy in international forums.

MPR Speaker Ahmad Muzani conveyed this during the 2025 Annual Session of the MPR at the Parliamentary Building in Jakarta on Friday.

"The MPR warmly welcomes President Prabowo Subianto’s tenacity in advocating for peace and the independence of Palestine in international forums," he stated.

He noted that as Indonesia approaches the 80th anniversary of its independence, millions of people elsewhere in the world continue to endure suffering and loss in the absence of peace.

These people, he said, “have been deprived of their right to live, to have a decent home, and to usher in the future.”

He attributed this grim reality to armed conflicts worldwide, particularly the war between Iran and Israel and Israel’s ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip of Palestine.

"Nearly 100 thousand lives have been lost, most of them women and children. Moreover, homes and schools have been flattened, leaving behind ruins of desperation," Muzani said of the situation in Gaza.

With that in mind, the lawmaker stressed that Indonesia should remain consistent in its commitment to upholding humanitarian values and supporting the freedom of the Palestinian people.

He recalled that Indonesia has long been recognized for this stance, citing its pivotal role in the Asian-African Conference and the Non-Aligned Movement.

He reaffirmed that the MPR fully supports President Prabowo in continuing diplomatic efforts to advance global peace through international forums.

In celebration of the 80th anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day, the country convened the 2025 Annual Session of the MPR alongside the 2025 Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) on Friday morning.

President Prabowo is scheduled to deliver his first annual state address during the session, outlining the work and performance of state institutions under his leadership in his first 10 months in office.

He will also present the 2026 State Budget at a DPR plenary session in the afternoon.
