He emphasized that freedom in the digital era, especially for women, should be understood as the liberty to create, participate in the virtual world, and access education as broadly as possible.
“For women, the digital space even becomes a channel to expand learning opportunities, build independence, and raise their voices for meaningful change,” Nezar said in an official statement received in Jakarta on Friday.
With the rapid and open development of digital space, access is no longer determined by gender, allowing women and men to increasingly achieve equality in empowerment through digital utilization.
However, challenges remain that women face in maximizing access to digital spaces. These include uneven internet access, limited digital literacy, and the emergence of cybercrimes such as online gender-based violence.
In response, the government is committed to providing solutions to these challenges to ensure community empowerment, particularly for women, in the digital era.
“We must ensure that every family can use digital technology safely and productively,” he said.
Nezar further expressed his full support for collaboration across society -- from families, educational institutions, government, to civil society at large -- to ensure technology becomes a tool for national progress, rather than an obstacle.
This principle should also apply to emerging technologies like artificial intelligence.
“We must use the internet and AI as means to advance Indonesia, not as high walls limiting the potential of our nation’s youth,” Nezar added.
Besides the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar is confident that other government bodies, including the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, will actively participate in realizing women’s independence in digital spaces.
