Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-owned logistics agency Bulog has mandated each of its warehouses to sell at least five tons of rice daily as part of its strategy to stabilize rice supply and prices in the community.

President Director of Bulog, Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani, made the announcement during a working meeting with Commission IV of House of Representative, which oversees agriculture, at Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday.

He urged warehouses to implement the policy by selling rice through the Food Supply and Price Distribution (SPHP) program either directly in front of the warehouses or by distributing it to markets.

“We require every warehouse to sell a minimum of five tons of rice every day,” Ramdhani stated.

He stated that accelerating the distribution of SPHP rice is necessary, noting that throughout 2025, only 230,945 tons of SPHP rice have been distributed, out of the 1.5 million ton target. This means the government must distribute another 1.269 million tons of SPHP rice to meet the target.

In addition to requiring each warehouse to sell 5 tons of rice per day, Bulog is also implementing a direct marketing approach by sending staff to engage with potential customers, especially in traditional markets.

“Many of rice sellers in the market, especially retailers are elderly and generally not proficient with mobile technology, so direct approach by Bulog personnel need to traditional markets are necessary,” Ramdhani explained.

Bulog also plans to collaborate with the military and police (TNI/Polri), the Merah Putih Village Cooperatives, state-owned food companies, as well as implement pre-order systems and modern retail distribution to speed up delivery of SPHP rice to consumers.

At the same meeting, Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman added that the government has prepared a stockpile of 1.3 million tons of SPHP rice to be distributed between July and December.

“Currently, market operations distribute around 6,000 tons of SPHP rice daily. Prices have started to decline, and God willing, going forward, we are preparing the highest stock amount to 1.3 million tons,” he said.

Sulaiman also emphasized that SPHP rice will not be distributed in areas where rice prices are already low.
