Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is investigating alleged corruption related to the provision of catering services during the Hajj pilgrimage.

"This catering case may not only be related to 2025. We will also check 2024, 2023, and years before that," KPK's Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution, Asep Guntur Rahayu, remarked in Jakarta on Monday (August 25).

He explained that the case is still being handled by the KPK’s Directorate of Public Reports and Complaints Services (PLPM) and has not yet reached the Deputy for Enforcement and Execution. If it proceeds to the investigation stage, the agency will focus specifically on alleged corruption in Hajj catering.

Rahayu added that the inquiry will also seek supporting information during the ongoing investigation into alleged corruption in the quota allocation and management of the Hajj pilgrimage at the Ministry of Religious Affairs for 2023–2024.

“We hope to obtain information, statements, and documents related to catering, accommodation, and other aspects as we continue to handle the Hajj quota case,” he noted.

Earlier, the KPK received a report from Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) regarding alleged irregularities in the 2025 Hajj catering system. ICW identified three key issues.

First, meals provided to pilgrims did not meet the minimum 2,100 kilocalories per day required under Minister of Health Regulation No. 28/2019. ICW found average intake during the pilgrimage was only 1,715–1,765 kilocalories.

Second, pilgrims were allegedly charged an extra 0.8 riyals or about US$0.21 per meal, potentially generating personal profits of up to Rp50 billion or around US$2.9 million.

Third, there were allegations of a reduction of 4 riyals or about US$1.07 per meal portion, which could have caused state financial losses of up to Rp255 billion or about US$15 million.
