Mukhtarudin, previously the secretary for the Golkar Party's faction in the House of Representatives, took office following the reading of Presidential Decree No. 86P of 2025, which formalized changes to the Red and White Cabinet for the 2024–2029 term.
During the ceremony, Mukhtarudin, along with other newly appointed officials, took an oath to uphold Indonesia's Constitution and laws with integrity and dedication.
Other appointments made by President Prabowo included Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa as Finance Minister, Ferry Joko Juliantono as Cooperatives Minister, Mochamad Irfan Yusuf as Minister of Hajj and Umrah, and Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak as Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah.
The president also dismissed Budi Gunawan, Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs, and Youth and Sports Minister Ario Bimo Nandito Ariotedjo, with their replacements yet to be named.
Following the oath, the ceremony included the signing of official documents and the singing of Indonesia’s national anthem, Indonesia Raya.
The president, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, cabinet ministers, and leaders of key institutions joined the national leaders in congratulating the appointees.
Notable ministers in attendance included Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita; Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani; Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia; National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo; and Armed Forces Commander Agus Subiyanto.
Also present were Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono; Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin; Coordinating Ministers Zulkifli Hasan (Food) and Airlangga Hartarto (Economic Affairs); Human Development Coordinating Minister Pratikno; State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi; and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
Mukhtarudin’s appointment is intended to strengthen Indonesia’s efforts to protect its overseas workers by bringing fresh leadership to the ministry.
