Kupang, E Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s border task force (Satgas Pamtas) intercepted smuggled vehicles, subsidized goods, and weapons during a 12-month deployment along the border with Timor-Leste, military officials said Thursday.

Brigadier General Hendro Cahyono, commander of Korem 161/Wira Sakti, announced the results at a farewell ceremony in Kupang.

The eastern sector unit, Yonif 741/Garuda Nusantara, intercepted two Rush cars and nine motorcycles, he said.

“These accomplishments reflect not only the professionalism of our soldiers, but real dedication performed without ulterior motives in challenging border operations,” Hendro said.

After the ceremony, Hendro added that local persuasion efforts led residents to voluntarily surrender 25 firearms—including TNI/Polri SS1 rifles, FN rifles, and Mouser long guns.

In the western sector, Yonarmed 15/Disana Bhaladika Yudha thwarted smuggling of government-subsidized goods. The unit also seized five homemade firearms, one pistol, and one organic weapon.

They intercepted four vehicles—three cars and one motorcycle—and livestock, including 11 cattle, nine horses, and two detection dogs.

Yonarmed 15 also uncovered a narcotics seizure involving four grams of methamphetamine.

“These achievements prove the task force’s seriousness in enforcing law and maintaining security in the border region,” Hendro said.

He urged troops returning to their units not to get caught up in celebrations, but to readjust quickly to their regular duties.

“Remain humble, professional, and never tire of serving the TNI, the nation, and the country,” he said.

Hendro encouraged troops to use this experience as guidance, motivation, and a spark to improve performance in their units.
