Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Navy’s warship KRI Raden Eddy Martadinata (REM)-331 carried out a combat simulation exercise in the Banda Sea, Maluku Province, on Thursday, aiming to sharpen its readiness to defend national waters.

In a press release received here Saturday, the Navy said the drill simulated simultaneous attacks from both air and underwater forces, during which REM331 deployed all onboard weapon systems.

Navy Spokesperson Rear Admiral Tunggul confirmed the exercise proceeded smoothly.

He said the ship’s arsenal, including the 76mm Leonardo super rapid gun, 35mm millennium gun, and 20mm Vector gun, were all engaged to counter medium-and close-range threats.

Decoys like Bullfighter IR & RF and Zoka SED acoustic systems were used to mislead incoming missiles and torpedoes.

Crew members also manned machine guns during the drill, showcasing layered defense tactics.

Tunggul expressed confidence that the successful simulation would further enhance REM331’s preparedness for any combat scenario.

He added he hopes all Indonesian Navy vessels maintain the same level of readiness to repel external threats to sovereignty.

“This exercise is part of efforts to boost the readiness and professionalism of Navy personnel in safeguarding Indonesia’s maritime sovereignty and security,” he said.

The Indonesian Navy, known as TNI AL, is a branch of the Indonesian National Armed Forces responsible for protecting the country’s maritime sovereignty and security.

Its duties include guarding Indonesia’s territorial waters and Exclusive Economic Zone, enforcing maritime law, carrying out military and humanitarian operations, and safeguarding strategic maritime interests.

The Navy is led by the Chief of Naval Staff and is composed of three main fleets - Fleet Command I, Fleet Command II, and Fleet Command III - alongside the Marine Corps.

Its operations are further supported by naval education institutions and modern facilities.
