Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s House of Representatives (DPR) is developing strategies to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy and transparency, aiming to maximize national gains from international forums, a senior lawmaker said on Sunday.

Ravindra Airlangga, Chair of the DPR’s Committee on International Organizations, said recommendations from the committee must lead to concrete actions that improve the DPR’s performance and serve the public interest.

“We are identifying ways to align DPR's role with Indonesia’s free and active foreign policy—engaging globally without being drawn into power blocs,” Airlangga said in a written statement.

“This helps preserve policy sovereignty while expanding diplomatic opportunities,” he said.

On Friday, the DPR’s Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) launched a Recommendation Book outlining strategies for international engagement and open governance. The event took place at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta.

The document includes proposals to strengthen Indonesia’s global presence, enhance transparency, improve governance, and align legislation with international standards.

Airlangga said legal reforms, such as revising the Statistics Law and ratifying the OECD Anti-Bribery Convention, are crucial to attracting investment and boosting economic growth.

He also emphasized the need for greater parliamentary openness, encouraging the DPR to make information more accessible to the public.

“Even simple efforts like publishing post-meeting summaries can expand public access and generate valuable feedback,” he said.

According to Airlangga, the International Organizations (OI) and Open Government Parliament (OGP) committees play complementary roles—advancing Indonesia’s international positioning while fostering domestic transparency and participation.

“We want these recommendations to be more than just formal reports. They should serve as real, actionable guidelines,” he added.
