Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has emphasized the importance of adhering to construction standards and deadlines for the Jakarta MRT Phase 2A project.

VP Gibran delivered his directives to the President Director of MRT Jakarta, Tuhiyat, during an inspection visit to the Sawah Besar MRT Station construction site in Central Jakarta on Monday (September 29), as confirmed by the Vice Presidential Secretariat's statement here on Tuesday.

Gibran said the MRT Phase 2A project covering the Bundaran HI-Harmoni segment must be completed by 2027, followed by the Harmoni-Kota segment in 2029.

According to the Secretariat, the VP's visit showed the government's commitment to directly monitor progress in building safe and accessible public transportation systems that support urban mobility.

“The instruction was to ensure everything proceeds well,” said Tuhiyat, conveying VP Gibran's message.

Sawah Besar Station is part of the MRT Jakarta Phase 2A development, covering the Harmoni-Kota segment.

During his visit, Gibran received updates on achievements, including the successful operation of the tunnel boring machine (TBM), which has started drilling the underground passage connecting Bundaran HI and Sawah Besar stations.

“This inspection aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to accelerate strategic national infrastructure projects across Indonesia,” the VP Secretariat added.

The government aims to deliver a more integrated, efficient, and inclusive public transport system.

Phase 2A includes seven underground stations: Thamrin, Monas, Harmoni, Sawah Besar, Mangga Besar, Glodok, and Jakarta Kota, spanning 5.8 kilometers.

Meanwhile, Phase 2B will cover Mangga Dua and Ancol stations, along with a depot at Ancol Marina, totaling around 6 kilometers of track.

Earlier, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung announced that the city has been ranked 17th among the world’s 50 best cities for public transportation in 2025, according to Time Out.

He stated that the achievement reflects Jakarta’s growing recognition on the global stage, particularly in the development of public transportation.
