Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto said his attendance at the Gaza Peace Summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, was a concrete expression of Indonesia’s unwavering support for peace and a cease-fire in Gaza.

“We came to express our support and to offer assistance. What’s important is that the cease-fire is now in effect, and Israeli forces will soon begin to withdraw,” Prabowo told reporters upon arriving at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The president said he witnessed the signing of the Gaza cease-fire agreement, which is now being implemented.

He added that both Hamas and Israel had agreed to begin releasing war hostages for repatriation.

“There are still some, perhaps, whose bodies have yet to be found,” he said.

Prabowo emphasized that the Palestinian cause has long been a cornerstone of Indonesia’s foreign policy and a personal conviction.

“I have stood for Palestine for decades. Since my youth, we have consistently supported the independence of Palestine and its people,” he said.

He highlighted Indonesia’s tangible contributions to Palestinian relief efforts, including humanitarian aid and food shipments.

Alhamdulillah, we have taken action. Indonesia has sent aid, ships, and Hercules aircraft carrying thousands of tons of rice. The people of Palestine and the broader Middle East recognize Indonesia’s commitment,” Prabowo said.

The Gaza Peace Summit was held in Sharm el-Sheikh on Monday (Oct. 13), co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and US President Donald Trump.

World leaders attending included Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Jordanian King Abdullah II, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

Also present were heads of government from Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Greece, Hungary, Pakistan, and Canada, along with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, European Council President Antonio Costa, and Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit.

Earlier, Prabowo had ordered the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) to prepare peacekeeping troops for deployment to Gaza if the summit produced a constructive outcome endorsed by the UN Security Council.
