Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has assured the public that current weather conditions in the capital remain within normal parameters and do not pose a cause for concern.

“As of today, Jakarta is not experiencing extreme heat as reported. The weather is still within normal levels,” he said during a press briefing at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday.

Responding to reports of rising temperatures in several regions of Indonesia, Pramono said he immediately coordinated with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), which confirmed that moderate rainfall is expected in Jakarta over the next few days.

“When I heard the news, I contacted BMKG right away. They confirmed that Jakarta will experience moderate rainfall over the next two to four days,” he stated.

Addressing public concerns over a potential increase in Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) due to heat exposure, Pramono emphasized that the Jakarta Health Office and Environment Office are prepared to implement preventive measures if needed.

He reiterated that the situation is not yet extreme and encouraged residents to remain calm. “Let’s hope Jakarta stays cool,” he added.

Meanwhile, Head of Disease Prevention and Control at the Jakarta Health Office Ovi Norfiana reported a noticeable rise in pneumonia cases at community health centers and hospitals since early August.

Although the trend is increasing, she noted that the number of cases has not yet peaked. “In addition to air pollution, this year’s wet dry season has also impacted immunity levels,” she explained.

Norfiana urged the public to adopt clean and healthy living habits, including regular handwashing, wearing masks in crowded areas, practicing proper cough etiquette, and boosting immunity through nutritious food, adequate rest, regular exercise, and stress management.
