Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of Indonesian Migrant Workers’ Protection have joined forces to enhance the potential and role of Indonesian migrant workers in supporting the nation’s exports.

The collaboration was formalized through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Tangerang, Banten, on Friday.

Trade Minister Budi Santoso said his ministry is committed to involving Indonesian migrant workers in export training and promotion programs to help them become entrepreneurs and exporters after returning home.

“We want migrant workers not only to work abroad but also to learn and serve as Indonesia’s trade representatives,” he stated.

The cooperation between the two ministries focuses on empowering Indonesian migrant workers as economic and promotional agents abroad.

It covers several areas, including capacity building, optimizing their role in gathering market insights, promoting Indonesian products and services, expanding access for skilled workers in partner countries, and exchanging data and information.

“We hope trained Indonesian migrant workers can become new exporters who will also encourage micro, small, and medium enterprises across regions to enter global markets,” Budi added.

Indonesian Migrant Workers’ Protection Minister Mukhtarudin described the cooperation as a strategic step toward building cross-sectoral synergy that supports both trade development and worker protection.

He emphasized that his ministry prioritizes improving the quality of protection and human resources for Indonesian migrant workers.

“We want our migrant workers to not only be large in number but also high in quality. The collaboration with the Ministry of Trade will expand their opportunities to contribute to national exports and become part of the global economic chain,” he concluded.
