OJK’s Chief Executive for Financial Services Business Conduct, Consumer Education, and Protection, Friderica Widyasari Dewi, said the timeframe aligns with global best practices.
“Abroad, reports are typically made within 10 minutes. Here, the average is 12 hours. That delay significantly impacts whether the funds can be traced,” Dewi said during a doorstop interview after an event here on Tuesday.
She expressed concern that many victims in Indonesia report scams only hours or even days later. This delay makes fund tracing more difficult, as scammers often move money through multiple bank accounts, e-wallets, marketplaces, and even crypto platforms.
Data from the IASC shows 299,237 scam reports were received between November 22, 2024, and October 16, 2025, with total losses reaching Rp7 trillion or around US$421.7 million. Of 487,378 reported accounts, only 94,344 were successfully blocked, securing Rp376.8 billion.
Dewi explained that most scams involve online shopping transactions, with women as the most frequent victims. Other prevalent scams include fake calls, fraudulent job offers, investment schemes, and social media scams.
She also warned women to avoid debt-driven lifestyles influenced by YOLO (You Only Live Once), FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out), and FOPO (Fear of Other People's Opinion), and instead stressed the importance of financial literacy.
OJK prioritizes financial inclusion for women, children, students, and people with disabilities, aiming to empower people to make smarter financial decisions.
She reminded the public to follow the “2L” rule — legal and logical — in avoiding financial scams, and to verify offers through OJK’s free 24/7 hotline at 157 or report scams via iasc.ojk.go.id.
