The ministry's Secretary General Kamaruddin Amin said the structure would consist of six echelon II units.
"We are proposing five directorates plus one secretariat, making a total of six echelon II units. The proposal is currently under discussion at the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB)," he said on Thursday.
He noted that the formation of the directorate general had passed several key stages, including the issuance of a letter from the Minister of State Secretariat to the Minister of PANRB instructing the acceleration of the process.
Kamaruddin said the appointment of officials to lead the new directorate would be under President Prabowo Subianto’s authority. He expressed optimism that the structure could be finalized this year.
On October 22, Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar announced that President Prabowo had approved the establishment of the Directorate General of Pesantren.
Umar said the new directorate would strengthen the governance of pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) in a broader, more systematic, and sustainable manner.
"With the establishment of this directorate general, coordination and services for pesantren can be carried out more comprehensively, systematically, and sustainably," he said.
