Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's National Nutrition Agency (BGN) reported that the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program will have 14,403 kitchens operating this month.

In a statement on Friday, BGN said it is conducting multi-layered verification for 1,560 kitchens still in the preparation stage.

As of November 6, 12,843 kitchens, officially called Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG), are already operating across the country.

BGN Deputy Head Sony Sonjaya said this development marks significant progress in preparing infrastructure for the MBG program, one of the government's key priorities.

He added that fast verification and field readiness are crucial to ensure nutrition services reach all target areas promptly.

"The verification process is dynamic and transparent. More than 13,000 potential partners have completed validation, and we are finalizing eligibility checks to ensure their compliance with national nutrition standards," he said.

BGN data shows that verification and preparation for public kitchens are conducted in stages, from location application reviews and partner preparation to readiness checks, field surveys, and final feasibility determination.

Sonjaya said the duration of each stage varies, from two hours to 45 days, depending on site complexity and infrastructure readiness.

"We must ensure each SPPG meets uniform standards in facilities, resources, and governance. The layered verification ensures no compromise on quality," he emphasized.

He added that the process also aims to guarantee equitable nutrition access and program effectiveness nationwide.

Areas with operational MBG kitchens will be required to strengthen coordination and supervision, while those lacking kitchens will be prioritized for additional support, he noted.

"We do not want oversupply in some regions while others are underserved. Equity is key so all Indonesian children receive quality nutrition services," Sonjaya said.
