Jakarta (ANTARA) - People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Deputy Speaker Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono affirmed that Indonesia stands ready to make even greater contributions to global peace efforts during the 9th World Peace Forum in Jakarta on Monday (November 10).

In a statement quoted on Tuesday, he expressed confidence in Indonesia’s capability and experience, citing the nation’s success in preserving harmony among diverse, heterogeneous communities spread across thousands of islands.

"Indonesia is home to over 1,300 ethnic groups with hundreds of local languages. Despite this diversity, we have stood solid as a single nation under the motto Unity in Diversity. We are committed to bridging differences to promote peace and humanity," Yudhoyono remarked.

The legislator, also known as the second son of former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, emphasized Indonesia’s consistency in upholding its independent and active foreign policy through broadening partnerships and avoiding hostility on the global stage.

On that note, he urged stronger international dialogues to encourage the exchange of ideas and best practices in tackling common global challenges, such as disinformation, humanitarian crises, climate change, and social injustice.

Furthermore, Yudhoyono underlined the need to strengthen noble principles that nurture a harmonious and responsible global community. He promoted Indonesia’s ideology, Pancasila, alongside religious moderation and the cultural values shared among eastern nations.

The MPR deputy speaker then repeated his call for all audience members to take full advantage of the World Peace Forum as a venue to enhance international cooperation in pursuit of a more peaceful, just, and prosperous world.

"Let us build a world that is rooted in trust, justice, and harmony. Indonesia is ready to bridge civilizations and become a partner for world peace," he concluded.

Yudhoyono delivered the statement at the opening of the 9th World Peace Forum, held at the Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta. The event, which ran until Tuesday, carried the theme “Considering Wasatiyyat and Tionghoa for Global Collaboration.”
