Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - Cooperatives Minister Ferry Juliantono has urged private companies and state-owned enterprises (SOEs) to mentor Red and White Village Cooperatives to help them operate more effectively.

“Going forward, SOEs and private companies must act as mentors for the village cooperatives so they can function properly,” he told the press on the sidelines of the Kompas100 CEO Forum in South Tangerang, Banten, on Wednesday.

He said such collaboration would help create more balanced growth between SOEs, the private sector, and cooperatives.

Juliantono noted that, in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s vision, the village cooperatives were established to restore an equitable economic system and serve as a constitutional instrument to ensure prosperity reaches all citizens.

He added that mentoring by private firms and SOEs would strengthen economic activity and monetization at the village level, creating a circulation of money that would stimulate the grassroots economy.

“This circulation of money will boost people’s purchasing power. With money moving in villages, aggregate economic growth can accelerate toward the eight percent target,” he said.

He further stated that the Red and White Village Cooperatives will help create jobs in rural areas as part of broader efforts to strengthen the village economy.

The minister emphasized that cooperation between the cooperatives, the private sector, and SOEs aims to build an economic ecosystem based on collaboration to support fair, inclusive, and sustainable growth.

The village cooperatives will function as agents selling staple goods through their outlets and as offtakers for agricultural products from village communities.

He said the cooperatives will also support the distribution of social assistance to ensure accuracy in its delivery.

The government launched the Red and White Village Cooperatives program to empower village residents, create jobs, improve access to essential goods and services, and help alleviate extreme poverty.

The program aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita mission to drive development from the village level for economic equity and poverty reduction.
