Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning (ATR)/National Land Agency (BPN) Head Nusron Wahid confirmed that flood disaster victims in Sumatra who need to reprocess their land certificate documents again will not be charged any fee.

“We would like to announce to residents affected by the floods that if they need to process their land documents again, we guarantee that no fees will be charged,” said Nusron at press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday.

As a result, flood and landslide survivors in Sumatra who need to reapply for their land certificates will face no additional or new charges.

Nusron said that based on preliminary data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and the Ministry of Home Affairs, around 65,000 hectares of rice fields have been buried in mud and are at risk of being lost.

This, he added, will affect land boundaries and related land records.

“We want to ensure that the state will be present and that people’s land ownership will remain secure. This is especially true for those who have already completed certification, because our data remains intact and can be verified through the digital cadastral map,” said Nusron.

He explained that if a piece of land is disputed, the ATR/BPN Ministry will review the records, which clearly indicate the rightful owner.

“We will ensure that. For farmers whose rice fields were destroyed by the disaster, their land rights remain secure. If their land certificates are lost and need to be reissued, the process will be easy and free of charge,” Nusron said.

Indonesia’s Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning (ATR) /National Land Agency (BPN) Head Nusron Wahid previously stated his ministry will safeguard farmland in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra from land-grabbing following recent floods and landslides.
