Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto affirmed his commitment to regularly monitoring conditions in areas and among residents affected by floods and landslides in Langkat District, North Sumatra, underscoring the government’s presence during emergencies.

He reassured disaster survivors of the government’s determination to address the crisis during his visit to a refugee shelter at a public Islamic high school in Langkat on Saturday, as seen in a livestream broadcast on his secretariat’s YouTube channel.

“I will continue to monitor your well-being day by day, week by week. We will do our best to assist all residents facing hardship because, ladies and gentlemen, you are part of this nation,” Prabowo told residents.

The president emphasized that the government cannot leave anyone to struggle alone in the wake of the emergencies. “We are your family, and you are our family,” he stated.

Furthermore, he expressed appreciation to all disaster response officers and volunteers in the field for their tireless efforts to accelerate the rehabilitation of disaster-affected regions.

The head of state also recalled his first post-disaster visit to North Sumatra on December 1, noting that the situation in the province has since improved compared to that time.

However, he noted that North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution has briefed him on the urgent needs of Langkat residents, particularly access to safe water for sanitation and drinking purposes, as well as the repair of broken embankments.

In response, the president affirmed that he will mobilize state resources and institutions, including the military and police, to swiftly address all persistent needs in the district.

As seen in the livestream, President Prabowo used his Langkat visit to directly assess the well-being of disaster-hit residents, including children. He also reviewed a medical post installed at the shelter.

Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi, Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf, National Armed Forces (TNI) Commander General Agus Subiyanto, and National Police (Polri) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, among others, were present.
