Prabowo made the statement during a visit to a refugee shelter at Public Islamic High School 1 in Langkat on Saturday.
“I came here to see the situation directly. The governor has informed me about the urgent needs, including clean drinking water. We will address these needs immediately,” Prabowo said in a livestream broadcast on his secretariat’s YouTube channel.
In addition to basic necessities, the president pledged government support to restore damaged infrastructure, especially embankments that collapsed during the floods.
He said the repair work would be carried out jointly by several institutions to speed up recovery efforts in affected areas.
“We will begin work on the embankments right away. I will instruct the military, the Ministry of Public Works, and the police to carry out this task. All available resources will be mobilized,” he said.
Despite emergency conditions still reported in parts of the province, Prabowo noted that the situation in North Sumatra had improved since his initial post-disaster visit on December 1.
The president reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to monitoring disaster-prone regions and ensuring sustained assistance for affected communities.
“The government will stand by all citizens facing hardship. Every citizen is part of this nation, and no one will be left behind,” he said.
During the visit, Prabowo toured the refugee camp, greeted displaced residents, interacted with children, and posed for photographs, according to the livestream.
He was accompanied by Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf, Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, and Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo, among other officials.
