In a statement cited in Jakarta on Saturday, MPR Speaker Ahmad Muzani pointed out that each province has received five thousand aid packages consisting of staple commodities such as milk, sugar, coffee, instant noodles, cooking oil, biscuits, and medicines.
He added that the assistance also included baby diapers, sanitary napkins, cajuput oil, and balm, noting that in Aceh, 2,000 packages were allocated to North Aceh District, 2,000 to Aceh Tamiang District, and 1,000 to East Aceh District.
“We are aware that this assistance remains limited. However, what matters most is that President Prabowo Subianto has shown his genuine determination to push for recovery efforts and help residents return to normalcy as soon as possible,” Muzani said.
The legislator also noted that the disasters, triggered by heavy rainfall in late November, have caused severe impact across multiple cities and districts in the three provinces, destroying homes and critical infrastructure and leaving many people dead, missing, or displaced.
“We are witnessing homes destroyed, agricultural land damaged, and livestock swept away,” he stated.
Despite the ongoing emergencies, Muzani lauded the military, the police, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), the Social Affairs Ministry, volunteers, and all parties who have been working tirelessly in disaster response.
“We can be proud to see that the spirit of cooperation that the Indonesian nation has long upheld never fades. This noble spirit serves as a legacy that we must maintain,” he concluded.
In response to the emergencies, President Prabowo has visited several disaster-stricken regions across the three provinces to directly assess the situation and the urgent needs of local residents.
He has instructed all relevant state institutions, including the military and police, to mobilize available resources to accelerate disaster response efforts and prepare for post-disaster rehabilitation, ensuring that no citizens are left to face hardship alone.
