The Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, on Wednesday (December 17), informed that the temporary housing construction is located in Tangse, Pidie District.
"Construction of temporary housing in Pidie District has begun. The temporary housing is for 12 families affected by the flooding in the area," he stated.
In addition, the Central Aceh District Government and the Gayo Lues District Government have also proposed the construction of temporary housing.
According to Muhari, the proposed locations and land ownership status in these areas are currently under assessment.
He emphasized that the sites must be free from disaster risks, including floods and landslides, and must be built on land owned by the local government.
“If the land does not belong to the local government, its legal status must be clear, whether it is donated or borrowed. This is to prevent future land disputes,” Muhari explained.
He said the temporary housing is intended for flood victims whose homes were destroyed or severely damaged and who are unable to return due to the lack of habitable housing.
“Temporary housing is provided until permanent housing becomes available. It allows evacuees currently staying in shelters to move into more suitable accommodation while awaiting permanent homes,” he added.
As of Wednesday, Muhari reported that the death toll in Aceh Province stood at 451. Meanwhile, North Sumatra recorded 364 fatalities, and West Sumatra 244.
“There were six additional deaths—two in Aceh and four in North Sumatra—bringing the total death toll to 1,059,” he said.
Furthermore, Muhari noted that the total number of evacuees stood at 588,226, down by 17,814 from 606,040 the previous day.
“We are also accelerating the establishment of integrated evacuation centers ahead of temporary housing construction. These centers will support the distribution of logistics, including food and non-food assistance,” he explained.
