He said the annual increase in travel during the Christmas–New Year season had been anticipated early, prompting the government to prioritize risk mitigation measures, including close monitoring of weather conditions. Coordination with the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has been strengthened to ensure the readiness of transportation hubs through January.
“Every year, we face an increase in public travel. Therefore, vigilance regarding weather conditions and infrastructure readiness is key. The government has also introduced policies to ease travel costs so that people can travel safely, comfortably and affordably,” said Yudhoyono in a statement on Tuesday.
He added that smooth transportation during the holiday period not only supports public mobility but also helps drive regional economic activity, including for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Yudhoyono conducted an on-site inspection of infrastructure readiness at the Nusantara Pura Pelindo Passenger Terminal in Tanjung Priok, Jakarta.
The government is ensuring nationwide transport readiness for the holiday period by strengthening coordination among ministries and state-owned enterprises.
Meanwhile, Director of Operations PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) also know as Pelindo, Putut Sri Muljanto, said the company has prepared a series of operational measures to ensure the smooth flow of passengers and logistics at ports nationwide during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
“To support smoother ferry crossings, Pelindo has once again operated Ciwandan Port as a supporting port for Merak Port,” said Muljanto.
Since December 19, 2025 some truck and motorcycle traffic has been diverted to Ciwandan to ease congestion.
Supporting facilities such as parking areas, health services, and emergency repair shops are also available for service users.
In addition to strengthening physical infrastructure, Pelindo is relying on digital systems to control operations. The implementation of Integrated Planning and Control, the Terminal Booking System, and enhanced truck and driver identification systems form part of efforts to manage vehicle flows and prevent congestion in port areas.
“Through a combination of infrastructure readiness, strengthened operational systems and cross-agency coordination, we are committed to ensuring that port services during the Christmas and New Year holiday period run safely, orderly and under control,” Muljanto said.
During this year’s Christmas–New Year holiday period, passenger numbers are projected to reach around 2 million, an increase of approximately 5 percent compared to the previous year.
Significant increases are expected in Tanjung Pinang and Tanjung Balai Karimun, as well as at several ports in eastern Indonesia, including Ternate, Kupang, Ambon, Manado and Papua.
