Manado, North Sulawesi (ANTARA) - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka inspected Bersehati Traditional Market in Manado City, North Sulawesi Province, on Tuesday, ahead of the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year celebrations.

The VP’s visit to Manado was accompanied by North Sulawesi Governor Yulius Selvanus and Manado Mayor Andrei Angouw.

During the visit, the Vice President reviewed conditions at Bersehati Market to ensure that prices and supplies of food commodities in the region remain stable and under control.

Gibran took time to visit several traders’ stalls and engaged in direct dialogue regarding the development of prices of basic necessities such as bird’s eye chili, tomatoes, shallots, garlic, fish, and rice.

As a gesture of support, he purchased bird’s eye chili, curly red chili, shallots, and fish from local vendors.

Meanwhile, President Director of the Bersehati Market Regional-owned Company (Perumda) Manado, Lucky Senduk, said the atmosphere at Bersehati Market was unusually busy due to the Vice President’s visit.

“We see very high public enthusiasm following the VP’s visit, as well as from the traders,” Senduk said.

Traders appreciated the VP’s visit, noting that it reflected his concern for the condition of traders and the availability of basic necessities for the community.

Senduk stated that, in general, commodity prices at Bersehati Market remain stable. While some increases have occurred due to typical market mechanisms ahead of religious holidays, they remain within reasonable limits.

Currently, bird’s eye chili is priced at approximately Rp45,000 per kilogram (US$2.68 per kg), tomatoes at Rp6,000 per kg (US$0.36), shallots at Rp65,000 (US$3.87), and garlic at Rp40,000 (US$2.38) per kilogram.
