Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government provided 1.35 million free halal certificates for micro and small enterprises (MSEs) by 2026, as informed by the Head of the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), Ahmad Haikal Hasan.

He said the policy was a directive from President Prabowo Subianto ahead of the implementation of the Mandatory Halal Law in October next year.

“President Prabowo Subianto is accommodating the needs of micro and small entrepreneurs by providing 1.35 million free halal certificates in 2026,” Hasan said in a statement on Tuesday.

In 2025, the government also allocated a quota of 1.14 million free halal certificates for micro and small entrepreneurs, with the program implemented by BPJPH. As of Tuesday, 10.9 million products had received halal certification from BPJPH, Hasan added.

This year, the agency also issued Decree Number 146 of 2025, which includes food kiosks as eligible recipients of free halal certification assistance. Under the latest regulation, 25,002 food kiosks registered with the Sihalal system have received free halal certification.

Hasan further explained that the halal certification process—both the self-declaration scheme for MSEs and the regular scheme for medium and large businesses—is conducted transparently through the Sihalal information system, which serves as the backbone of BPJPH’s digital services.

The implementation of regular halal certification, in accordance with Law Number 33 of 2014 and Government Regulation Number 42 of 2024, also involves external service providers, namely the Halal Inspection Institutions (LPH) and the Fatwa Commission of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).

Hasan detailed that halal certification applications can be submitted to BPJPH through ptsp.halal.go.id and are then subject to product inspection or testing by LPH through audits conducted by certified halal auditors. Based on the audit results, the product proceeds to the MUI Fatwa Commission for a halal ruling, followed by the issuance of a halal certificate by BPJPH.

“In this digital halal certification service, there are no physical meetings or personal communication between BPJPH employees and the business entity applying for the halal certificate,” Hasan said.
