Hambalang, W Java (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s government on Tuesday urged police to investigate alleged acts of terror against a social media influencer critical of the authorities, saying intimidation has no place in the country’s democratic life.

State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the reported incidents must be handled through a formal investigation to establish facts and ensure accountability for any wrongdoing.

“We ask that everything be properly investigated,” Prasetyo told reporters during a cabinet retreat in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java.

He stressed that criticism, feedback and corrections of government policy were legitimate and protected, as long as they were conveyed through established and peaceful channels.

“The government does not tolerate any form of terror or intimidation, regardless of the target or motive,” Prasetyo said.

He described the case as part of Indonesia’s democratic maturation, where differing views should be expressed respectfully and without pressure or threats.

“If there is something to be conveyed, it should be done properly. There is no problem with criticism,” he added.

President Prabowo Subianto has expressed concern over the alleged acts, Prasetyo said, noting that such practices should no longer occur in modern Indonesia.

Kompolnas: digital forensic methods

National Police Commission (Kompolnas) member Mochammad Choirul Anam urged investigators to use digital forensic methods, including cell dump techniques, to trace those behind the attacks.

“There must be digital number records in the surrounding area that can be cell-dumped so we can identify who the person is and where they live,” Anam said at a press conference in South Jakarta.

He also called on police to closely analyse CCTV footage, saying perpetrators could be identified through facial images and traced via national identification data.

The former National Human Rights Commission commissioner said freedom of expression was a fundamental right of every citizen.

He urged people who disagreed with others’ views to respond through lawful expression, rather than intimidation, to maintain a healthy public space.

Police investigation

Jakarta police earlier confirmed they had received a report from influencer Ramon Dony Adam, better known as DJ Donny, and had launched an investigation.

DJ Donny said unknown individuals targeted his home on Dec. 29 and again in the early hours of Dec. 31, 2025, raising fears for his family’s safety.

He reported receiving a chicken carcass at his house on Dec. 29, followed days later by an attack captured on CCTV footage.

“At around 3 a.m., CCTV recorded someone throwing a Molotov cocktail at my house,” Donny told reporters at Jakarta police headquarters.

He said the attacks went beyond personal intimidation, threatening his family and neighbours, and added he had also received frequent threats by phone and social media.

Police have yet to name any suspects, as the investigation continues amid heightened concern over the safety of critics and freedom of expression in Indonesia.
