Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - The Bali Province Health Office has discovered two positive cases of Super Flu, or influenza A (H3N2) subclade K, in Denpasar.

The Head of the Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) Division at the Bali Health Office, I Gusti Ayu Raka Susanti, asked the public not to panic as the two cases occurred in patients in October 2025 who have now been confirmed recovered.

“We sent the samples to the national laboratory, but the results took a long time. We only received the confirmation recently and then traced the cases back to October,” she said on Tuesday.

An epidemiological investigation confirmed that both patients have recovered and resumed normal activities.

According to Susanti, the two patients were males aged between 40 and 45, had no history of international travel, and were treated at Wangaya Regional Hospital, a designated referral facility for severe influenza cases.

The two patients were also confirmed to be unrelated.

Following the laboratory confirmation, the Bali Health Office immediately conducted surveillance of the patients’ families.

“We also investigated their surroundings and found no reports of similar influenza-like symptoms,” she added.

At the time of hospitalization in October 2025, both patients experienced influenza accompanied by breathing difficulties or pneumonia and were treated and isolated as a precautionary measure.

Susanti said the delayed laboratory results had postponed the local government’s identification of the cases.

In response, the Bali Health Office will strengthen surveillance of patients with influenza-like symptoms down to the community health center level.

She reminded the public to maintain a clean and healthy lifestyle, wear masks when experiencing flu symptoms, and seek immediate medical attention when necessary.

Throughout 2025, the Bali Health Office submitted 126 samples suspected of influenza A to the national reference laboratory, with only two confirmed positive.

Testing is ongoing, and results for five additional samples submitted in November all returned negative on Tuesday morning.

Susanti emphasized that strengthening early warning systems remains a top priority, even though the virus has long existed and does not carry a special designation.
