“Indonesia is not only present as a participant, but as a strategic partner ready to actively contribute to the advancement of world sport, in line with Olympic values and the spirit of sport for all,” Oktohari said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday.
Oktohari and his team welcomed the visit of the head of the organization, which serves as a bridge for non-Olympic sports federations, and held a meeting at the KOI headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday (Jan. 14).
He said KOI welcomed the visit as a tangible sign of international confidence in Indonesia’s role within the global sports movement.
The visit was also seen as a momentum to strengthen Indonesia’s sports diplomacy and expand strategic cooperation at the global level. Indonesia, he said, continues to actively contribute to building a global sports ecosystem that is inclusive, sustainable and socially impactful.
“Indonesia is committed to making sport a unifying force, inclusive in nature, and a tool for character development among the younger generation,” he said.
Oktohari explained that cooperation between KOI, also known as NOC Indonesia, AIMS and SportAccord has progressed in concrete ways and delivered tangible impacts, including in capacity building, education and sports diplomacy.
SportAccord is a global sports events organization that serves as an umbrella body for more than 120 International Federations of Olympic and non-Olympic sports. It organizes major events such as the World Sport & Business Summit and the IF Forum, which bring together global sports leaders, host cities and industry stakeholders for networking and knowledge sharing.
On the occasion, Oktohari also underscored Indonesia’s readiness to take on a greater role in the global sports agenda, including in strategic international forums such as the SportAccord Convention.
He said Indonesia’s contribution should not be merely symbolic but substantive, both in promoting national sports and in supporting the development of world sport.
Meanwhile, AIMS President Stephan Fox said his visit to Indonesia was an official visit aimed at conveying appreciation for Indonesia’s leadership in advancing sport for all people, across all abilities.
He expressed his gratitude to President Prabowo Subianto for the strong efforts made by the government in promoting sport for all segments of society.
Fox said the visit also reinforced relations and the implementation of a memorandum of understanding between United Through Sports and NOC Indonesia, which is a key partner in various AIMS and SportAccord initiatives. The memorandum was signed by the President of NOC Indonesia and the AIMS General Assembly in Lausanne, Switzerland, some time ago.
He added that collaboration between AIMS and NOC Indonesia will continue at the SportAccord Convention 2026, scheduled to take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, on May 24–28.
At the event, Fox said, AIMS will promote Indonesian sport, while Indonesia will also contribute to supporting the development of world sport and strengthening cooperation between SportAccord and Indonesia’s sports movement at the global level.
