Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Social Affairs has begun delivering logistics as disaster relief to flood-hit residents in Karawang District, West Java Province.

Speaking in Jakarta on Tuesday, Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf reported that the relief included 500 packages of ready-to-eat meals, 100 packages of children's meals, 200 packages of side dishes, and five family tents.

He also mentioned the delivery of 50 folding tents, five family tents, one multifunction tent, 75 mattresses, 100 blankets, 100 family kit packages, 100 kidware packages, and 100 packages of children's clothing.

According to him, the aid consignments were mobilized through the warehouse of the West Java Social Affairs Office for residents affected by flooding caused by overflows of the Cibeet and Citarum Rivers.

The minister went on to say that, in addition to distributing essential goods and equipment, his office has conducted rapid assessments of flooded areas to ensure the basic needs of victims are met.

"The Ministry of Social Affairs is committed to ensuring that the aid reaches flood victims in Karawang. We will also continue to monitor developments in the field to support effective, swift, and well-targeted disaster response measures," Yusuf affirmed.

Furthermore, he highlighted that the Karawang Social Affairs Office had set up a field kitchen at the headquarters of the ministry's Karawang Disaster Preparedness Cadet on Monday (Jan. 19). The facility is capable of producing 1,100 meal portions per day.

Yusuf further reported that the flooding has affected a total of 2,562 people from 854 households, noting that 470 victims are taking shelter in Karangligar Village, while the remainder have evacuated to their relatives' homes.
