The services primarily focus on protecting families, especially vulnerable groups, to ensure their safety amid the crisis.
Minister of Population and Family Development Wihaji, in a statement in Jakarta on Friday, noted that his ministry is deploying family planning and Generation Planning (GenRe) field workers to provide trauma healing support in collaboration with psychologists.
Trauma healing is conducted at evacuation centers through educational sessions, counseling, and mental health support. Through the GenRe program, these services have reached 1,686 teenagers to date, including 500 in Aceh, 722 in North Sumatra, and 464 in West Sumatra.
Wihaji noted that, alongside psychosocial support, his ministry is also providing family planning services near evacuation centers to ensure access to contraceptives.
These efforts are part of the ministry's role in implementing the Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP) for Reproductive Health during health crises. In this capacity, the ministry is responsible for preventing unintended pregnancies in disaster situations.
Apart from that, specific nutritional intervention efforts targeting pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and children aged under five are continued through the provision of Free Nutritious Meals (MBG).
"Our principle is clear: the state must be present and deliver a tangible positive impact for affected communities," the minister stressed.
Three provinces of Sumatra—Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra—were hit by heavy rainfall-triggered floods and landslides in late November 2025.
According to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) records, as of January 20, the disasters claimed 1,200 lives and left 143 others missing across the three provinces, with the number of evacuees standing at around 113,903.
