Jakarta (ANTARA) -

Indonesia will use its seat on the Gaza Board of Peace to push for Palestinian statehood, Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono said on Friday, calling the initiative a concrete step toward lasting peace.

Speaking in Bad Ragaz, Switzerland, Sugiono said Indonesia joined the board to influence policy and ensure all efforts lead to Palestinian independence.

"The goal is clear: Palestinian independence must be achieved,” he said.

Indonesia aims to steer the board’s direction so its policies and programs remain firmly aligned with the two-state solution, a position Jakarta has consistently upheld on the Palestinian issue, Sugiono said.

He said the process offers a realistic opportunity amid limited alternatives, allowing Indonesia to capitalize on diplomatic momentum to advance peace and Palestinian statehood.

Indonesia views the Board of Peace as a more substantive step than issuing condemnations alone, suggesting the mechanism enables concrete action through oversight of Gaza’s post-war transition.

"Many countries issue statements, but the Board of Peace and its next steps are something tangible in achieving Palestinian independence,” Sugiono said.

The Board of Peace was initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump to oversee Gaza’s administration, stabilization, and reconstruction after the conflict.

Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto signed the board’s charter during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Thursday, calling it a historic opportunity to achieve peace in Gaza.
