In his directives, he asked the council to develop a strategy, including efforts to reduce Indonesia’s dependence on imported fuel.
"There are four key focuses. First is energy sovereignty; there must be no intervention from any party. Second is energy security. Currently, our energy reserves last only 21 days, and we will increase this to three months, and we will definitely build storage facilities," said Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, who also serves as the daily chair of DEN.
The president also asked the National Energy Council to develop a strategy to strengthen energy independence and to create a roadmap toward energy self-sufficiency.
"We still import approximately 30 million kiloliters of fuel, both diesel and gasoline. The fourth focus is self-sufficiency. We will implement this in stages, with the ultimate goal of achieving energy self-sufficiency," Lahadalia added.
On the same occasion, he noted that the roadmap to energy self-sufficiency has been completed.
"We are now starting to outline steps for collaboration with other countries, and the organization is almost finalized. A presidential regulation is required, which is currently in process. Hopefully, this can be completed quickly," he said.
At the State Palace, President Prabowo inaugurated Lahadalia as the daily chair of DEN, along with seven ministers as council members: Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, National Development Planning Minister Rachmat Pambudy, Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi, Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman, Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto, and Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq.
The president also inaugurated stakeholders to the council: Johni Jonatan Numberi and Mohammad Fadhil Hasan from academia; Satya Widya Yudha and Sripeni Inten Cahyani from industry; Unggul Priyanto from the technology sector; Saleh Abdurrahman from the environment sector; and Muhammad Kholid Syeirazi and Surono from the consumer sector.
The council is chaired by President Prabowo, with Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka as deputy chairperson and Lahadalia responsible as the daily chair for day-to-day operations.
