Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government has urged village facilitators, village heads, and residents to take part in implementing the Safe, Healthy, Clean, and Beautiful Indonesia (ASRI) Movement.

"I invite village facilitators, village heads, village officials, and village residents to carry out the ASRI Movement in line with the direction of President Prabowo," Deputy Minister for Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions Ahmad Riza Patria said in a ministry statement issued on Saturday.

He made the remarks while participating in a joint exercise and environmental clean-up activity.

President Prabowo Subianto introduced the ASRI Movement during the National Coordination Meeting of the Central and Regional Governments in Bogor, West Java, on February 3. He wants to ensure the creation of a safe environment for the Indonesian people, Patria said.

"Safety is needed so citizens can carry out their duties, activities, and national life," he said, adding that safety is an essential requirement in protecting the nation from various threats.

Patria said that regular sports and physical activities are needed to maintain public health.

He also stressed the importance of a clean and orderly environment to create a beautiful living space.

"President Prabowo emphasizes a clean lifestyle with no more waste. For that reason, waste management will be developed to convert waste into energy," he said.

Earlier, Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said efforts to address the waste emergency were being carried out through the ASRI Movement.

"Following President Prabowo Subianto’s directives under the Indonesia ASRI Movement, all levels of government are asked to carry out cleaning and waste handling," Nurofiq said.
