“Their pledge of allegiance to Indonesia reflects their commitment to leave behind the radical ideology they previously followed,” said Surabaya Class I Prison Head Sohibur Rachman in Porong, Sidoarjo.
The event was attended by Yulius Sahruzah, director of Prisoner and Child Development at the Directorate General of Corrections, Ministry of Immigration and Corrections.
Representatives from the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT), Police Anti-Terror Special Detachment (Densus 88), East Java State Intelligence Agency, local government, Ministry of Religious Affairs, military, and police also witnessed the pledge.
ZY and FA were serving sentences for affiliation with the radical group Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) and were transferred from Depok Detention Center to Surabaya Class I Prison on Dec. 18, 2025.
“Since their transfer, ZY and FA have undergone intensive rehabilitation as part of our deradicalization program,” Surabaya Class I Prison Head Sohibur Rachman said.
During their time at Surabaya Class I Prison, both convicts completed rehabilitation stages emphasizing environmental orientation, emotional and intellectual adjustment, and ideological neutralization.
“They were given space to reflect, learn, and interact socially with inmates from diverse backgrounds. A humane approach, respecting human dignity, became a turning point in changing their mindset,” the prison head said.
