"Every Ramadan, consumption increases, and price pressures can emerge. Therefore, the state must act proactively, ensuring that policy instruments are in place before any volatility occurs," he said in Jakarta on Monday.
According to him, the seasonal cycle of rising demand for basic commodities has become a predictable pattern ahead of the Islamic fasting month and Eid al-Fitr.
Without well-prepared anticipatory measures, he continued, this situation has the potential to cause a reduction in public purchasing power, particularly among middle- and lower-income groups who are most vulnerable to spikes in food prices.
"If the prices of rice, sugar, or cooking oil rise unreasonably, it directly hits household spending. Therefore, controlling food inflation must be a serious priority," he said.
He also urged Bank Indonesia, the Ministry of Finance, the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and the national banking industry to synergize in maintaining financial system stability.
Optimizing early detection mechanisms for potential food inflation and strengthening the role of Regional Inflation Control Teams (TPID) are deemed strategic steps that must be activated early.
Furthermore, he stressed that the smooth distribution of logistics and monitoring of market speculation must not be overlooked.
The stability of the rupiah exchange rate and the adequacy of banking liquidity also play a role in ensuring smooth economic activity for the public throughout Ramadan.
"Price stability is more than just a statistical figure. It is about the public’s peace of mind as they observe their worship and prepare for the holiday. When the economy is stable, regional business activities thrive and create a positive impact on growth," he said.
To this end, the legislator asserted that the DPR will carry out its oversight role by intensively monitoring prices, liquidity, and policy effectiveness through Eid al-Fitr.
