“We received a report from the bus conductor of a passenger who had fainted. When we checked, she had already died,” said police commissioner I Nyoman Wiryadarma on Wednesday.
Wiryadarma, deputy head of the Gilimanuk security task force for the Ketupat Agung 2026 operation, said the passenger, identified by initial R, had been traveling to Kebumen in Central Java.
He said the woman was taken to a nearby health clinic in Gilimanuk for further examination.
Medical personnel later confirmed the passenger had died, he said, adding authorities were coordinating with her family to repatriate the body to Central Java.
Jembrana Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Kadek Citra Dewi Suparwati said the body had been sent to the victim’s hometown.
She said only an external examination was conducted, which found no signs of foul play.
“No irregularities were found in the external examination. Further procedures such as an autopsy were not carried out,” she said.
Authorities urged holiday travelers to ensure they are in good health before departing, citing unpredictable travel conditions during the peak exodus period.
“We cannot assess each traveler’s health individually. Only they know their own condition. If unwell, it is better to rest,” she said.
In recent days, more than a dozen travelers had fainted during the exodus period but were promptly treated by officers, authorities said.
