Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said the figure marked a 2.53 percent increase from the ministry’s initial estimate of 143.92 million travelers.
“For the Eid period, the number of travelers reached 147.55 million, representing a 2.53 percent increase from our initial survey,” he said after the closing of the Integrated Eid Transportation Command Center in Jakarta.
He said the higher-than-expected turnout reflected robust travel demand during the holiday season.
According to the minister, differences between projected and actual figures were influenced by various factors, including public decision-making patterns in planning Eid travel.
The ministry will conduct further evaluations to better understand travel behavior and improve planning for future holiday periods.
Purwagandhi said the government had anticipated the surge through a range of policies and service enhancements aimed at ensuring smooth travel during both the outbound and return flows.
He added that overall transportation services during this year’s Eid season operated well, with no major disruptions affecting public mobility.
The minister also noted a decline in traffic accidents compared with previous periods, indicating improved safety standards, although he did not provide detailed figures.

He also credited the public for complying with instructions from authorities, which helped maintain orderly traffic conditions throughout the holiday period.
The minister concluded by thanking personnel across agencies who worked throughout the holiday to ensure transportation services remained reliable nationwide.
