The government’s rice reserves (CBP) stand at around 4.8 million tonnes as of April 2026, the highest in history,Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Deputy Agriculture Minister Sudaryono conducted a surprise inspection at a warehouse complex of the state-owned logistics company Bulog in Magelang, Central Java, on Saturday (April 18) to check rice stocks.
“Mr. President does not rely on written reports; he wants to directly review the rice stocks stored in the warehouse,” Sudaryono said in a statement cited in Jakarta on Sunday.
He further explained that the impromptu visit aimed to “make sure that food stocks are truly adequate and ready for public distribution when needed" as part of broader efforts to safeguard national food security amid looming crisis risks from global geopolitical tensions.
Sudaryono highlighted that he and the president had confirmed the warehouse complex, capable of storing up to 7,000 tonnes of rice, is at full capacity, reflecting a sufficient supply for the public.
He added that a similar trend is seen in other Bulog warehouses across various regions, including in Makassar and Bone in South Sulawesi.
Indonesia has witnessed strong rice production over the past year, he continued, noting that 2025 output rose 13.29 percent following rice field expansions and the government’s enabling policies and programs.
“The government’s rice reserves (CBP) stand at around 4.8 million tonnes as of April 2026, the highest in history,” he said, expressing optimism about continued stability in supply and pricing nationwide.
He added that the total rice supply is projected to reach approximately 28 million tonnes, comprising CBP reserves, an estimated 12 million tonnes already in circulation, and another 12 million tonnes expected from upcoming harvests.
“This amount is equivalent to 11 months of supply,” Sudaryono emphasized.
The deputy minister also said the government is continuing efforts to strengthen food security, including assigning Bulog to absorb at least four million tonnes of domestic rice in 2026—up from three million tonnes last year.
Sudaryono noted that the government allocated Rp16.5 trillion (nearly US$1 billion) in 2025 to support Bulog’s role, adding that pricing policies are designed to protect both farmers and consumers.
