Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT PLN Indonesia Power has signed a memorandum of understanding with Bangladesh’s Bay Group to develop a 495-megawatt solar power project, marking its first venture in the South Asian country.

"This is our first project in Bangladesh, and we hope it will run smoothly. We see this cooperation as a strategic step to strengthen our position in the global market," Chief Executive Bernadus Sudarmanta said in a statement on Wednesday.

The initiative aligns with Bangladesh Power Development Board’s plan to expand solar capacity across 10 strategic sites nationwide.

The MoU gives Indonesia Power the opportunity to participate in upcoming tenders and broaden its clean energy portfolio.

Bay Group appointed its subsidiary Copenhagen Urban Solar Parks BD Ltd (CUSP), a Denmark-Bangladesh affiliate focused on solar development, to lead the collaboration.

The agreement was signed by Sudarmanta and Bay Group Managing Director Ziaur Rahman, who also chairs CUSP.

Rahman described the partnership as a first step in strategic collaboration for renewable energy development in Bangladesh.

"We see Indonesia Power as a partner with strong experience and capability in power generation. This cooperation is expected to support sustainable solar energy growth in Bangladesh," he said

Indonesia Power, a subsidiary of state utility PLN, has been expanding its renewable energy footprint as part of Indonesia’s broader energy transition agenda.

The company said participation in the Bangladesh project underscores its commitment to global energy transition efforts and positions it as a key player in renewable generation.

The project is expected to contribute to Bangladesh’s push for clean energy while reinforcing Indonesia Power’s role in international markets.
