Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian women's longboard surfer Dhea Natasya Novitasari made history after winning the World Surf League (WSL) Longboard Qualifying Series (LQS) 1000 Hamamatsu Open 2026 in Hamamatsu, Japan, on Sunday (May 17).

According to the official social media account of the Indonesian Surfing Association (PSOI), or Surfing Indonesia, the achievement earned Natasya the right to compete in the 2026/2027 WSL Longboard Tour.

She became the first Indonesian woman to achieve this feat.

PSOI stated in its post that Natasya is also the fourth Asian woman to enter the elite ranks of female longboarders worldwide, with the previous three hailing from Japan.

In the final at Nakatajima Beach, Hamamatsu, Natasya recorded a total of 15.87 from her two best waves—the highest score for the women's division in the competition.

Natasya also achieved the competition's best single-wave score of 8.67. She impressively outperformed two Japanese surfers, Hiroki Yoshikawa and Yamaguchi Hana, who finished second and third, respectively.

The achievement marked another major milestone for the 2019 SEA Games gold medalist in the WSL.

Previously, in July 2025, Natasya topped the WSL Longboard Qualifying Series Siheung Korea Open.

"This victory [in Hamamatsu] is my second in the WSL. I'm very happy. Now I'll return home and continue training to be more prepared for the Longboard Tour," said the 25-year-old athlete, as quoted from the WSL website.

In addition to Natasya, Indonesian longboard surfer Dhany Widianto also achieved positive results in Hamamatsu, finishing as the runner-up in the men's LQS 1000.

Widianto earned a career-best total of 12.96 points across two waves, putting up a tough fight against champion Taka Inoue (Japan), who bagged a winning total of 13.36 points.
