The decision was highlighted in response to the recent arrest of 320 foreign nationals suspected of being involved in illegal digital gambling networks.
“I have instructed the Director General to increase surveillance at all locations that could potentially be used to host similar activities,” Andrianto told the press when met in Bekasi, West Java, on Tuesday.
According to him, the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections faces distinct challenges in detecting problematic foreign nationals entering Indonesia.
He explained that this difficulty occurs because the majority of these international suspects utilize visa-free entry facilities.
To address this, the ministry will strengthen cooperation with the Indonesian National Police to monitor the activities and residences of suspicious individuals.
Polri's Criminal Investigation Department uncovered the international online gambling ring in West Jakarta and arrested 320 foreign nationals.
The 320 foreigners comprised 228 Vietnamese, 57 Chinese, 13 Myanmar, 11 Laotian, five Thai, three Malaysian, and three Cambodian nationals.
Police officials have officially handed over these foreigners to the Directorate General of Immigration for further processing.
The raid which took place at Hayam Wuruk Plaza Tower was part of law enforcement's efforts to step up the crackdown on transnational crimes.
The ministry noted that these syndicates are considered increasingly complex as they actively exploit international networks and digital technology.
In addition to criminal prosecution police are looking into potential stay permit violations and the blatant misuse of immigration documents.
