"The proposal to form the committee is still too far because data that we received are not enough to support the idea," Achsanul Qosasih.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The formation of a special inquiry committee on tax mafia is still too far if it is not supported by valid and accurate data, a legislator said.

"The proposal to form the committee is still too far because data that we received are not enough to support the idea," Achsanul Qosasih of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission XI on financial affairs said here on Tuesday.

He was responding to a proposal by about 30 legislators from nine factions in the House to set up a special inquiry committee on tax mafia.

Achsanul said if they wanted to propose the formation of the committee they must have valid data so that it would not be biased.

Therefore, he said, the Democrat Party (PD) did not agree with the proposal to form a tax mafia inquiry committee.

He said that if an inquiry committee was to be established the auditing of the 151 firms should first be carried out.

"PD did not agree to it. A special committee is enough (without inquiry)," he said.

He said that the House should well use its control function in the form of supervision through the special committee.

Achsanul explained that the House Commission XI and Commission III (legal affairs) had the same attention to the tax matters.

"Since June 2007, Commission XI has discussed the tax problem. Shortage was always found each time the revised budget was discussed so that other sources of revenues should always be sought for," he said.

"We set up a tax working committee and found deviations, including dispute on taxes," he added.

He said that the aim of Commission XI`s taxation working committee was to increase state revenues from the tax sector.
