"People staying inside buildings felt the earthquake moderately, some of them were panic stricken," Chairman of the Ujung Kulon National Park Agus Priambudi, said at Sumur sub district, Pandeglang, Tuesday.
The temblor lasted for around 15 seconds, he said.
"There is no damage in the earthquake (at Sumur Sub district), only a number of people were panic," he said.
When the earthquake occurred, Agus Priambudi was giving local residents directives on disaster mitigation measures.
Rofikoh of the Serang meteorological, climatology and geophysics office, said the quake`s epicenter located 7.38 degrees southern latitude and 105.97 degrees eastern longitude, at a depth of 23 km below sea level, and about 83 km southeast of Ujung Kulon.
"The earthquake did not have potential to trigger a tsunami because its magnitude is below 6 on the Richter Scale," she said.
On Monday (APril 4, 2011), a 7.1-magnitude earthquake rocked Central Java`s Cilacap district at 3.06 am local time and caused massive panic to local residents.
Some of the local residents had even fled to nearby hills in Ayah sub-district, Kebumen district, Head of Ayah subdistrict, Ahmad Bahrun, said.
Ahmad Lani of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency(BMKG) said earlier that the strong earthquake`s epicenter was located 10.01 degrees southern latitude, 107.86 degrees eastern longitude, at a depth of 10 km some 293 km southwest of Cilacap.
Ayah sub-district borders with Nusawungu sub-district in Cilacap district, and they are separated by the Bodo river.
Ahmad Bahrun said many of the residents were also shocked by the strong earthquake.
They rushed out their homes to go to higher ground but later returned to their villages shortly after they stopping receiving tsunami warning, he said.
